Work at The Gladstone

The Gladstone Theatre is committed to diversity, inclusion and providing opportunities to everyone regardless of race, colour, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, marital status, disability or gender identity. Theatre is a celebration of human stories. We value yours.

Who works at The Gladstone?

Staff Positions

The Gladstone runs through the efforts of two part-time salaried staff (the Theatre Manager and the Front of House Manager), a handful of casual box office and bar staff, and a number of contractors who do everything from building maintenance to maintaining the books.

Interested in a staff position?  Please send an introduction letter and your resume to Robin at theatremanager@thegladstone.ca.

Volunteers

The Gladstone relies on volunteers to help us deliver great theatre to our patrons.

We are always looking for friendly, energetic, reliable folx to be ambassadors for our venue as Front of House Volunteers.

Volunteers enable The Gladstone to continue its mission to operate a sustainable and affordable facility for Ottawa’s independent theatre companies.
Volunteer tasks include:
*making patrons feel welcome and comfortable when they come to the theatre
*scanning tickets
*managing the Coat Check before & after a show
*helping patrons find their seats
*assisting patrons if there is an issue during a show.

We are exceedingly grateful for our Volunteers.

Watch the video to see if you’d like to join our team!

If you are interested in volunteering at The Gladstone, contact our volunteer coordinator — also a volunteer! — at  volunteers@thegladstone.ca.

Auditions

Shows that happen at The Gladstone are not cast and produced AT The Gladstone, but rather by each individual production company. These production companies each have their own way of casting shows, but notices for auditions will nearly always appear on the Ottawa Theatre Network Facebook group as well as on the PORTAiL email list.  You can sign up to receive PORTAiL listings by emailing PORTAiL portalpostings@gmail.com.

Occasionally, several companies that produce at The Gladstone will gather to hold general auditions. These general auditions will always be posted on the Ottawa Theatre Network Facebook group, through PORTAiL, and postings from the various theatre companies involved.

We also recommend that you follow the following theatre companies who produce regularly at The Gladstone. This list includes an array of professional, amateur, and scholastic entities.

  • Bear and Co.
  • Phoenix Players
  • Plosive Productions
  • SevenThirty Productions
  • Three Sisters Theatre Company
  • Toto Too
  • OttawaMusicals
  • The Academy for Musical Theatre

Technical Work

While most of the lighting, sound, video, stage management, and other backstage design and technical work are engaged directly by the producing companies, we do occasionally hire on behalf of renters or alternately, make recommendations to renters.  If you would like to be on our list of available backstage or design professionals, please email your resume and your area of interest to Robin at theatremanager@thegladstone.ca.
